Macedonia

Macedonia is the northern region of Greece, bordering the Balkan states to the north.

The dances are characterised by slow music at the start which gradually builds up to blazing fast endings.  The music, influenced by the surrounding regions, features brass instruments -- this is characteristic to the region and is not found elsewhere.

The most well-known dance from this region is Leventikos.  Other popular dances include: Raikos, Gaida, Marena, Nizamikos, Melekes and Endeka

To the west of Macedonia is Thrace
