Pyrgousikos

Pyrgousikos is a dance from the island of Chios and specifically the region of Pyrgi. It is a fast paced, exciting dance that is unique in that it is danced in groups of three.

The story behind the dance is that the leader of the trio is the future groom, who has travelled with his accomplice (the person on the end) to steal away his future bride (in the middle). This act is of course done at night and they must swiftly exit the village holding tightly onto the swept away girl lest her family are made aware of what is happening.
