It is with great pleasure that the BLE was again involved in this annual event, this year spread out over two days for the first time. Our very own Michael and Irene Savas taught a class on Island dances. The workshop, as always, was a perfect opportunity to attend basic and master dance classes as well as classes on regional dances taught by greater Boston area instructors, including Alexandra Ouzounidou and Georgia Mavridis of the Panagia Soumela Boston Dance Troupe, Libbey Terzakis and Strato Koutroubaki of the Megalonisos Cretan Dance Group, and Haralampos Stathopoulos of the Sons and Daughters of Alexander the Great. On Saturday night, we all enjoyed a glendi where we were able to review many of the dances we learned earlier in the day. The master classes on Sunday focused on tsestos from Thrace; serra, tsourtougouzlou, and ters from Pontos; advanced moves/figouras from Crete; and basics of Greek dancing for beginners. All in all, it was a great weekend full of fun, learning, and friendship.
